The Olde Getty Place Halloween Parade
The local Halloween parade has been a tradition in Gettysburg for both the young and young at heart for forty years, but it recently lost the Gettysburg Jaycees as its sponsor. The demise of the parade was certain unless someone stepped forward to reincarnate the “ghosts and goblins”….and the Elm Street Program has done just that!
The Elm Street Program is a re-development project aimed to revitalize downtrodden residential neighborhoods in Pennsylvania, restoring them to their original charm, while encouraging homeownership as well as the creation of neighborhood businesses. The designated Elm Street area, situated in Gettysburg’s 3rd Ward, has been named “Olde Getty Place, Where History Hides.” The eight-block neighborhood is bordered by West Middle Street, Franklin and South Streets, and Long Lane and Court Alley.
The first annual Olde Getty Place Halloween Parade is set to step off on Tuesday, October 27th at 7:30pm.
with a rain date of October 28th. We need participants….floats, bands, marching groups, costumed groups and individuals, vintage cars, Emergency Services groups, dance groups, etc.
We are offering over $2,500 in prizes. Kim and Scott of the 107.7 morning show will be serving as your Grand Marshals with Fred Snyder as Emcee. With your help, we will do our best to maintain both the quality and growth of this annual event.
We also are looking for volunteers willing to help us the night of the parade!
